Lesson 3 Salvation

John 5:39 Search the Scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

1 John 5:8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.

10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

11 And this is the record that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

12 He that hath the Son hath life: and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

1.     Blood, Water, and Spirit (BWS) agree in one. (One Salvation See Eph 4:4,5,6)

2.     BWS are how God testified of His Son.

3.     The witness of God (BWS) is greater than the witness of man.

4.     Eternal life is in Jesus Christ. (See also John 14:6)

5.     Without Jesus Christ we have no life.

6.     We must believe on the NAME of the Son of God so that we may know we have eternal life.

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?

5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

9 Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?

10 Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?

1.     Born Again = born of water and of the Spirit (Compare v.3 to v.5)

2.     The Greek definition of the original word for water is water (as if rainy) literally or figuratively. The substance of rain. This eliminates any reason to believe that this water is speaking of “amniotic fluid”. Jesus was clearly speaking of water baptism. (see Acts 1:5 and Acts 11:16 for more on this)

3.     When one is born of the Spirit, a sound is heard (see v.8)

4.     Being a master (scholar) of Jewish scriptures should reveal the water and Spirit born again message.

Blood, Water, and Spirit throughout the Old Testament

Genesis 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

3       And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

The Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters, and then there was light. Notice Jesus told Nicodemus except a man is born again HE CANNOT SEE.

(See also 2 Corinthians 3:14, 4:4, and 1 John 2:11)

BLOOD

Genesis 6:12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.

13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

14 Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.

The Hebrew word for pitch is defined as “atonement” which means he used animal blood in between each piece of gopher (cypress) wood to construct the ark.

WATER

1Peter 3:20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

Not only does Peter tell us that Noah was saved by water, but the Apostle himself compares that water to baptism of the New Testament.

SPIRIT

Genesis 6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD. (The Spirit spake to Noah)

The Exodus of Israel (Moses)

BLOOD

Exodus 12:13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.

WATER

Exodus 13:18 But God led the people about, through the way of the wilderness of the Red sea: and the children of Israel went up harnessed out of the land of Egypt.

SPIRIT

Exodus 21 And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night:

22    He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people.

1Corinthians 10:1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

2      And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

Paul compared the Exodus of Moses with Jesus born again teaching (see also John 3:5, Acts 1:5)

The Tabernacle of Moses

Hebrews 9 speaks of this tabernacle (Exodus 35) as a “patterns of things in the heavens”.

BLOOD

The Brazen Altar – where the sacrifice was killed. (REPENTANCE of Acts 2:38)

WATER

The Brazen Laver – the priest had to wash here. (BAPTISM of Acts 2:38)

The Priest was forbid to pass this lest he DIE. (Exodus 30:20 see also Mark 16:16)

SPIRIT

The Holy Place – This includes the following: (HOLY GHOST of Acts 2:38)

v      The Golden Candlesticks – only light allowed in tabernacle. (Revelation)

v      The Table of Shewbread – the food for the priests. (Word of God)

v      The Altar of Incense – The altar that burned sweet smelling savor (Prayer)

The Holiest of Hollies

v      The Ark of the Covenant – the temple of God covered by the cherubs. (Our bodies Romans 12:2, 1 Corinthians 6:19)

Stored in the Ark:

v      the Pot of Mannah (God’s Provision)

v      Aaron’s Rod that budded (God’s Correction, Protection, and Authority)

v      Tablets of Stone (God’s Commandment and Law)

v      Called both the Ark of the Covenant and the Ark of the Testimony.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ (Blood, Water, and Spirit)

1Corinthians 15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

BLOOD

3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures;

WATER

4 And that he was buried

SPIRIT

…and that he rose again the third day according to the Scriptures:

The Acts of the Apostles (Obedience to the Gospel)

Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Luke 24:45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the Scriptures,

46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day:

47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Peter is given the keys to the kingdom (Matthew 16:19) for His declaration of His God given revelation of the One God in Jesus Christ. In obedience to John 3:5, Peter preaches water and Spirit and unlocks the entrance to the kingdom of God to (Acts 1:8) in Jerusalem and in all Judea (Acts 2), Samaria (Acts 8), and to the uttermost parts of the world (Acts 10).

Peter preached this message:

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

39   For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
